SLAIHEE CONFERENCES

3rd Conference 2007

The Third Conference was held on Friday, 27th April 2007, followed by a post-conference half-day workshop on Saturday 28th April 2007 (on ‘Reflective Practice’). The conference and the workshop were organised jointly with the Staff Development Centre of the University of Colombo, on the theme “Developing Skills in University Lecturers and Students?”.

The Keynote Address was delivered by Mr Deepal Sooriyaarachchi, Managing Director, Eagle Insurance. Proceedings were conducted by Professor Suki Ekaratne. Dr Nilukshi Abeyasinghe delivered a Plenary Presentation on Analysis and Perceptions of Academic promotion Schemes in the Sri Lankan University System, which was followed by a Panel Discussion. Paper presentation sessions were chaired by Mr P Dias and Dr Enoka Corea.

The following peer-refereed PAPERS WERE PRESENTED at the conference:

  5. Addressing Possible Impacts on the Leaning Climate of Medical Students at University of Ruhuna based on Teacher Perceptions by V. Devasiri University of Ruhuna.
  6. Life Skills Assessment as a Teaching Tool to improve Cognitive and Employability Skills in post-graduate students by P. Dias, University of Sri Jayewardanepure.
  7. Changing Criteria in Assessment to Reduce the Problem of Plagiarism and to Develop Skills by N. Mendis, University of Colombo.
  8. Introduction of a Transparent Assessment Procedure to Develop Presentation Skills in Geography Students by M.O. Perera and E.M.S. Ranasinghe.
  9. Modifying Teaching and Assessment Methods to Improve Student Performance in Practicals by A. Wickramasooriya.
